3D sound spatialization with game engines: the virtual acoustics performance of a game engine and a middleware for interactive audio design

Abstract This study analyses one of the most popular game engines and an audio middleware to reproduce sound according propagation physics. The analysis focuses on transmission path between source receiver. Even if there are several ready-to-use real-time auralization platforms software, engines' use with this aim is a recent area for acousticians. However, design needs limits their basic releases require additional tools (plugins middleware) improve both quality realism in virtual environments. paper discusses Unreal Engine 4 Wwise's 3D production methods set different test It assesses performance regard commercial geometrical acoustics software. results show that investigated version engine its assets insufficient simulate real-world cases significant improvements can be achieved middleware.
